National website for Playwriting

This site has a great deal of information about the many playwriting opportunities available for students (and, in some limited cases, faculty and professional playwrights). We hope to make the submission process as simple as possible. Please read all the information as many of the submission procedures are new.

Please follow the links: they should help you to decide what and how to submit your work. Please read National Rules and Procedures first. Then explore the other pages and links on this page. These should answer most of your general questions about submitting plays.

Once you have decided on the type of play to submit, download the appropriate forms. All submissions are electronic, in Word or PDF format, and will require a cover sheet. You can also find the appropriate cover sheet for each category.

At the Region 6 festival, we will have readings of:

  • regional finalists for the 10-minute play award
  • regional finalists for the John Cauble Short play award
  • Regional Award for Invited Full-Length Play Reading (This award is a regional award only and selected from submissions to the Michael Kanin Playwriting National Award catagories)

If your script is invited for a reading at the regional festival, it is important to attend. Region 6 festival is February 28-March 3, 2018 in San Angelo, TX.

Deadline for regional entries is December 1. National reading awards have, for the most part, a December 1 deadline.

Region VI NPP (along with all regions) is now using Submittable for our play submissions! Click the link the below and create an account. It is free of charge.
